Q: How long will I need chiropractic care?

Q: How does chiropractic work?
A: Chiropractic is the science of figuring out where you are experiencing spinal joint dysfunction, and then correcting the dysfunction. This is done by using specifically directed, carefully controlled pressure to move your spinal bones back toward a more healthful position or motion. Such spinal adjustments are often accompanied by additional supportive care, including nutritional advice, exercise, physical therapy techniques or other conservative methods of treatment based on your individual needs.

Chiropractic care is the most commonly used form of alternative medicine, and is widely recognized by the medical community as a proven method of dealing with many types of pain and health complaints. Accordingly, many private insurance plans and Federal programs—including Medicare/Medicaid, Government Employees Hospital Association Benefit Plan and Postmasters Benefit plan—cover chiropractic care.

Chicago chiropractor Dr. Scott Cabrera and the caring staff at Higgins Sport & Spinal Rehab are truly dedicated to delivering the finest in chiropractic care and physical therapy. Chicago area residents are encouraged to call today - discover what chiropractic care can do for you!

Q: Do I have a slipped (herniated) disc?
A: The term "slipped disc" is a bit misleading. The discs in between your vertebrae can't actually "slip;" they are physically attached to the bones above and below it. However, a disc can have other, painful problems - it can bulge, it can tear, it can herniate, or dry out, or collapse. Any of these conditions can cause painful irritation to the nerve tissue surrounding a disc.

Q: Do I have a pinched nerve?
A: Again, the term "pinched nerve" can be misleading. The nerves that emanate from your spinal column can be stretched by, rubbed against or chafed by a spinal bone, all of which can irritate the nerve, cause acute pain and impair the nerve's ability to transmit impulses between your brain and body.

Q: How long until I see results?
A: Many patients experience relief after just a few appointments with their chiropractor, but for others relief from their pain comes more slowly, perhaps within weeks or a few months. Your individual Treatment Plan will be help you to understand what kind of relief you can expect over the course of your treatment.

Q: How long will I need chiropractic care?
A: The length of your chiropractic care treatment depends on your specific case and health needs. Dr. Cabrera will work with you to develop a personalized Treatment Plan that will outline the goals of your treatment, the elements of your individual course of treatment, the frequency of treatments, and the duration of treatments.

Q: What is that "popping" noise I hear when I receive an adjustment and does it hurt?
A: The popping sound you hear is simply gas (air) being released into your joint. It means the adjustment is working properly and is nothing to worry about. Although the sound may startle you a bit, it does not cause pain.
